Sussex Undercover cars, Talklets online text reader

September 1, 2007

In a bid to curb the increase in drivers who drive at excessive speeds and in a way which causes alarm and distress to other road users, Sussex Police have drafted in a number of different unmarked, high-performance vehicles that are able to deter a hardcore of motorists who insist on putting people’s lives at risks.

Sussex Police Uncovered – Roller Campaign – We never went away (via Jim’s Garage)

Two things are cool about this article:

  1. Police are getting more sophisticated with undercover patrol cars.  I’ve seen a little of this on US highways, but not to the extent of this Sussex effort.
  2. The story can be read to you in a delightful British accent, courtesy of the Talklets player on the page.  This seems like a great accessibility feature, and worked well on the article when I used it.

Have UR card available

August 22, 2007

I did some Friday beercan informal racing earlier in the month.  While finishing downwind on a heavy wind day, a puff of wind hit us.  In the leeward bow position, I wasn’t able to react quick enough to join my skipper on the windward side of the boat to balance the puff of wind.  In a span of five seconds, we death-rolled and capsized.  While capsizing, I (unsuccessfully) tried to keep dry by getting on top of the boat.  After the capsize, and freeing myself from the sheets (it’s scary when the boat is rotating hull up and you have a sheet (rope) around your leg), my finger was hurting.

Three hours in the ER later, and I learned that I had fractured the tip of my middle finger.  Fun.

Fast forward two weeks to the follow-up appointment.

While filling in medical information at the orthopedic hand surgeon’s office, I noticed a note on one of the forms, which read (paraphrased):

Have UR insurance card available for photocopying.

How awesome is that?  No picture, unfortunately, but I’ll try to get one when I return to their office.

The star of the TRANSFORMERS® movie is unleashed in its full, awesome glory with this meticulously rendered, movie-accurate sculpture inspired by 3-D turnarounds pulled straight from the film. Unremarkable detail makes this one must-have sculpture for your collection. (My emphasis) Transformers Movie Unleashed BumbleBee: Toys & Games

I don’t think that means what you think it means.

Flock Testing Feedback

Flock Testing Feedback

OMG that’s a lot of feedback for the newest version of Flock.  Feedback can be good, and this is feedback from people who want the product to succeed, which is great.  However, even with the conversation threading that Gmail offers, I can’t hope to add my thoughts to many of the threads.  I just don’t have the time.

I’ll have to use Gmail’s search capabilities to grep through the current emails to see if others have found the issues that I’ve seen.
